
Dr. Fred Saad M.D.
‘Research is a necessary element for achieving excellence in cancer care’
Dr. Fred Saad holds the position of full professor of surgery and urology at the University of Montreal. He currently works as head of the urology department and director of urological oncology at the University of Montreal Hospital Center (CHUM). In addition, he assumes the role of director of the molecular oncology laboratory dedicated to prostate cancer at the Montreal Cancer Institute, while being responsible for oncology research at the CHUM Research Center.
Since 2004, Dr. Saad has held the Chair in prostate cancer at the University of Montreal, and in recognition of his leadership and impact in the medical field, he was honored with the CHUM Leadership and Outreach Award. in 2005. In 2014, he was also the recipient of the CRCHUM Excellence Award for his exceptional research career.


Dr. Saad played a crucial role as president of the Association of Urologists of Quebec and served as president of the Genitourinary Group of the National Cancer Institute of Canada as well as the Canadian Urological Oncology Group of 2007 to 2013. His commitment to scientific research is reflected in the publication of more than 500 articles and book chapters, as well as his contribution to more than 1000 scientific abstracts presented at international conferences.
As co-editor of several works, including the famous “Understanding Prostate Cancer” with more than 160,000 copies sold, Dr. Saad remains a major player in the field. His current research primarily focuses on molecular prognostic markers in prostate cancer and novel approaches to treating advanced prostate cancer. He currently supervises more than 40 clinical and fundamental research projects in urological oncology, and his expertise is regularly sought nationally and internationally, where he has been invited more than 300 times as a speaker
