Raymond Garneau Chair in Prostate Cancer
History
Officially created on May 19, 2004, the University of Montreal Chair for Prostate Cancer was renamed in 2018 to pay tribute to its most illustrious philanthropist, Mr. Raymond Garneau.
Mr. Raymond Garneau

Since the creation of the Chair in 2004, Dr Fred Saad has held the position as Chairholder.
The research chair strives to develop preclinical models to study the molecular and cellular biology of prostate cancer. We are trying to discover candidate genes to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in prostate cancer and to combine molecular knowledge with clinical research to optimize screening tools and treatments.
Supporting student researchers is a priority for us at GRUO. Since its creation, the chair has provided support to Master’s and Doctorate students, enabling them to complete their research projects. Their projects have resulted in some of Canada’s most innovative research, leading to improved diagnosis and prognosis for cancer patients.
